Howard Pyle

Howard Pyle was born on March 5, 1853 in Wilmington, Delaware. He was a very well known 19th century illustrator, noted specifically for his contributions to fairy tale illustrations. He took particular intrest in Arthur Rackham's work, as well as the work of Kate Greenaway and Walter Crane. He was inspired by the Middle Ages and created art that had elements of "Pre-Raphaelitism, Aestheticism, Symbolism, and American realist painting" ("Howard Pyle").  The illustrations depicted below were included in the 1903 book The Story of King Arthur and His Knights and the 1883 edition of The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood
