Criteria for Record Selection:
Our group's goal for this project is to highlight the visual aesthetics of select Japanese horror films. After speaking with a few Japanese culture and film experts on campus, our group decided to work with the Mark Schilling collection.This collection is mostly unprocessed, but it contains over 30 years of Schilling's work as a film critic and journalist. While sorting through this material, we found reviews, film stills, and promotional materials relating to Japanese horror movies. We then supplemented the physical materials from the Schilling Collection with images and videos we found across the internet that furthered our goal of highlighting the visual semiotics of a small selection of Japanese horror films.
