Private mourning - National reconstruction
Public mourning and National reconstruction
A collection of snippets of Barricada newspaper that showcases a variety of activities done by families after the loss of their loved ones during the dictatorship period. Religious services were common in the newspaper and often were accompanied by a photograph.
Along with the announcements of mass, there were sections dedicated to the "Heroes and Martyrs", usually showcasing narratives of the contribution this person would make to the revolution. Publishing side by side, the newspaper was showcasing the national reconstruction made possible through martyrdom.
Even when they are not mentioned, mothers and families were present to make visible their loss as part of a national narrative, they were also present to demand justice when perpetrators enjoyed impunity.
