Dignity Detroit

Dignity Detroit was founded on May 11, 1974.  It began with Brian McNaught, a journalist who gathered a list of names from the greater Diocese in order to start a local chapter. They first met in a rented upstairs apartment and when Brian was fired from his job for coming out, their chapter drew national attention and their community grew. Now, Dignity Detroit meets in the Sacred Heart Chapel at Marygrove College, Six Mile and Wyoming. At the heart of their community is inclusion and belonging in the Catholic Church. They state, "As GLBT Catholics, it is our right, our privilege, and our duty to live the sacramental life of the Church. We believe that we can express our sexuality in a loving, life-affirming manner that is in keeping with Christ's teaching."
