Educator Voices

Educators at the University of Michigan have had the extraordinary task of continuing to provide a world-class post-secondary education to tend of thousands of students. While continuing to do this important work, they have also fought for protections to keep themselves, their families, their students, and our wider community safe in the context of a pandemic. In-person instruction often required significant additional work to provide for fully virtual - and even sometimes asynchronous - participation from students. Meanwhile, tense negotiations in the UM community around appropriate Covid-related precautions also occurred in the context of a planned renegotiation of the lecturers' union (LEO) contract. These discussions were originally delayed due to the pandemic, but resumed over the summer of 2021.
