Explore and Learn
As you explore our digital archive, you will learn and be exposed to many different recipes dating back to the early 20th century. Under "Browse Recipes" is a list of all the available recipes you can read about and learn what goes in to making these recipes a reality. Feel free to click on the recipe that catches your eye to see details of how to make these diverse dishes! Under "Kitchen Glossary" please feel free to read the explanations and definitions of terms you might not be familiar with that are mentioned in the recipes that can be found within our archive. Under "Menu Recommendations" this page allows you to garner meal ideas for various types of events from the recipes found on this site. If you have a food memory or recipe from your time at the University of Michigan that you would like to share with us please go to our "Recipe Submission" to submit your information! To learn more about what went into making this digital archive please feel free to click "Project Description" to read all about our team's thoughts and processes.

Our archive is ever expanding, but if you feel like exploring more recipes that haven't quite made it onto our digital archive just yet here are some collections from the Unviersity of Michigan Special Collections and Bently Historical Museum you can explore. Please note that if you want to explore these collections you will have to make an appointment to schedule a visit to see them in person.
Bentley Historical Library
- Martha Cook Building (University of Michigan) publications: 1916-2015: This collection holds the original Marth Cook cookbook with recipes dating back to 1916 as well as other recipes that were served to its residents from the early 20th century to the present.
- Henderson House (University of Michigan) records: 1945-2010: This collection stores house recipes and cookbooks from the women who lived at Henderson House, a women's cooperative dormitory established in 1945 to provide affordable housing and a supportive community for women enrolled in the University of Michigan.
- Sophia Holley Ellis papers: 1946-2007 (scattered), 2016-2018: Within this collection is the Mary Markley House cookbook from 1948.
- East Quad Memory Project (University of Michigan) records: 1977-2012: This collection includes a cookbook from the Halfway Inn Café with recipes dating back to 1978. The Halfway Inn Café was a student run café and performance venue located in the East Quad basement. You can actually download a digital copy here.
Hatcher Special Collections Reading Room
- Ella E. Hall recipe book: This cookbook includes recipes from Univesity of Michigan sorority chapters of Delta Kappa Epsilon, Delta Gamma, and Gamma Phi Beta.
