Kitchen Glossary

Have you ever been cooking and come across a step in the recipe you are following that makes no sense? For example, if a recipe states to julienne carrots or add a smidgen of salt, you might be confused and lost. But have no fear; the kitchen glossary is here!

Many of the recipes collected within our digital archive stem from a period when women were taught how to cook early and thus became very familiar with cooking terms and instructions. As a result, some recipes you find may be sparse in defining the steps and processes. However, that is not the case in modern times. Many men and women are not as trained in cooking as they were in the past. Some adults still don't know how to cook. Also, cooking terms have evolved as well. As a result, we have created a kitchen glossary to assist our users in fully understanding the recipes they encounter here.
