Isaac Burgdorf: My name is Isaac Burgdorf and I am currently in my first semester of the Masters of Science of Information program at the University of Michigan. Although I wasn't born in Michigan, I have been here for over a decade and I'm proud to call it home. Anyone in my life would tell you that I am obsessive about clowns and circus imagery, so this was a very exciting project to work on. I focused on records sourced from the William L. Clements Library, going into the archive to take photos of some of them myself and obtaining relevant scans from a colleague. In addition, I wrote our project description and some of the descriptions within the archive such as the brief introductions to each circus on the "Traveling Through" page.
Hailey Glushyn: Hello! I'm Hailey Glushyn, a first-year graduate student studying archival practices at the University of Michigan's School of Information. As a Washtenaw County native, I've had an interest in Ann Arbor history since I was young. The items and information gathered about the Union Circus were my largest contribution to the project, these elements can be found on the "Hometown Show" page of our site. Given the limited number of digitized Union Circus images available online, I traveled to the Bentley Historical Library to independently photograph material preserved in the archive's extensive scrapbook collection. Additionally, I was responsible for the technical, structural, and decorative elements of the site (successfully or not). This includes implementing the mapping functions, forming four different item sets, creating the group's resource template, and composing the Harmful Content Statement.
Abby Koet: Hiya! My name is Abby Koet! I'm a first year graduate student at the University of Michigan's School of Information. The circus has always captured such a magical feeling, but it also holds such a dark history. I think it is very important to educate people about this vast history. I contributed a variety of circus route books for seasons where circuses stopped in Ann Arbor. There are hundreds of route books, so I did a tremendous amount of research to find relevant route books. I also aided in repairing any techinal difficulties that arose while building our site. This includes mkaing our site more user friendly and readable.
