Positionality Statements

Our team chose to include positionality statements to be transparent about our identities and the ways in which they might influence the collection and presentation of the records in this online archive, especially given that the interpretation of finding aids and archival materials are "bound up" in the "positionalities of archivisits involved in its creation" (King, 2024, p. 527). Considering how many groups represented in this archive have been historically left out of traditional archives, we believe it is important to disclose our perspectives and potential biases, as we are not exempt from highlighting certain voices and leaving out others.

Contribution Statements

Fallon McCue, Lead Writer: For this project, I wrote the project description paragraphs and works cited. I took photographs at the Bentley Historical Library and Heidelberg Project and later uploaded them to the team’s Google Drive. I wrote metadata for five items from the Ann Arbor Sun, and I created all of the website’s item sets. LinkedIn

Mac Jackson, Lead UI/UX Designer: For this project, I was the primary user interface website designer. I also did research on the John and Leni Sinclair papers and identified which folders to select. I participated in the site team visit to the Bentley Historical Center and the site team visit to the Heidelberg Project site. I took some of the images during the Heidelberg trip, I then created the collages on the Heidelberg Project collection webpage. LinkedIn

Isabelle Kinney, Lead Researcher: For this project, I did research on the zines from MSU’s open access collection Activism and Radicalism and wrote the metadata for six of the items in the “Radical” Zines items set on the website. I also worked to format the presentation to adapt the statements from the OMEKA site to a presentation format. LinkedIn

Seb Campagna, Lead Researcher: For this project, I did research on the Heidelberg project and John and Leni Sinclair, including leveraging my work connection to some of the items, and led the site visit to Detroit to actively document the Heidelberg project. I converted all of the image and video files, created our metadata template, and wrote the metadata for the Heidelberg and the Sinclair items.
