Webkinz is a stuffed animal and video game franchise by the Canadian toy company Ganz. Each Webkinz stuffed animal and Webkinz accessory comes with an 8-character code, within a tag tied onto the plush. By registering this code on the Webkinz Classic desktop application or mobile app, the customer "adopts" a pet in the virtual Webkinz World.
The Webkinz World is an online play area with its economy controlled by Ganz. The user can earn money (called KinzCash) by adopting new pets, playing online games, answering general knowledge questions, and through daily activities like spinning the Wheel of WOW, playing Wishing Well 2, or completing jobs (minigames) available once every 8 hours. - agentNote

Kindergarten or first grade was the peak of Webkinz obsession and I had this one unicorn that I loved and I was so happy with it. But then when I started seeing other kids with the penguins and just having multiple Webkinz I started to get jealous of those people and so one day I was at the mall with my dad and I wanted one so badly that I stole one but then I was so riddled with guilt that I couldn’t activate it online. I ended up just hiding it in my room. And then all these rumors when around that if you didn’t check up on your Webkinz that they would die and it freaked me out so much I stopped playing.
I remember begging my parents for a Webkinz because all the kids in elementary school had one but my parents weren't big on the idea. I got a Webkinz pug one year for Christmas and I was so excited. I named him Iggy after my Uncle's pug. Later I got a schnauzer and a frog but they were obviously less important to me because I don't remember their names. I remember the mini games you could play on Webkinz. I liked the pizza shop simulator and the snowboarding mini games. I also really liked spinning the Wheel of Wow for free prizes. I also remember going to the Webkinz docotr, who I think was a duck with a Scottish accent. I was allowed to play Webkinz after I got my homework done in elementary school. I think I got more use out of the plush toys than the online pets though because all three of them stayed on my bed for many years!
