Engage with Celebrities
Every voice matters, but some voices reach farther than others. The Vietnam era had a particularly high level of social engagement in the music world. Musicians used their platform to advocate for peace, from world-famous rock stars like John Lennon (James 1989, p. 134), to those who found their voice as an advocate like Joan Baez. Actors whose protests in the 1970s enforced labels like “traitor” (Itkowitz 2018) have continued to find relevant social issues to protest in 2019 and beyond (Buckley 2019). Your voice matters, and it is important to get it as far as you can. Celebrities believe in many of the same things that you do, and can be a huge help in being heard.
