History of the Inter-Cooperative Council of Ann Arbor

Nakamura House

Founded in 1948, Nakamura was one of the first houses to be purchased by the ICC. In the early days of the ICC, Nakamura had the largest population of co-opers, including both residents and non-resident boarders. This created a strong community and a powerful influence within the ICC. As of 2020, Nak has had more members become ICC President than any other co-op. Throughout the years, Nak has had many famous and infamous members, including Theodore Kaczynski, (the man who later became "The Unabomber") who lived next door at the now defunct Kagawa Apartments and boarded at Nak.

John Nakamura was an American soldier and former member of the ICC who was killed in action during the final days of the allied invasion of Italy.
