History of the Inter-Cooperative Council of Ann Arbor

Linder House

Benjamin Linder Cooperative House, located at 711 Catherine St., was purchased in 1988. Located in the heart of Kerrytown, it is known for its vibrant house culture and is usually one of the houses with the lowest rate of turnover in the ICC.

Ben Linder was an American engineer who left the United States to provide assistance to the fledgling Sandinista regime in Nicaragua. While working on a small hydroelectric dam, Linder was murdered by the Contras, a loose confederation of rebel groups funded by the U.S. government. Coming at a time when U.S. support for the Contras was already highly controversial, Linder's death made front-page headlines around the world and further polarized opinion in the United States due to the circumstances of his death.
