First general manager of the Inter-Cooperative Council (ICC), the governing body of student cooperatives in Ann Arbor, Mich., who served the ICC for 34 years beginning in 1951. Buchele also helped to establish the North American Student Cooperative League (NASCL) and North American Student Cooperative Organization (NASCO). Before that he was active in the student cooperative movement on the University of Kansas campus.
The Braille and Talking Book Library is a Michigan State Service through the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. The library operates through the United States Postal Service as well as digitally, supplying readers with braille e-readers, digital players, and supplemental cartridges loaded with requested material(s) to either be mailed or delivered to users digital devices.
Free to the public, the Kent District Library Talking Book and Braille Center (KDL, TBBC) serves Kent, Montcalm, and Iona counties surrounding Grand Rapids in Michigan. The KDL Talking Book Library serves the blind and visually impaired communities. Materials are available in multiple formats, including Braille and electronic Braille, audio, DVDs, and descriptive videos. KDL TBBC provides resources to accessibly request materials and use adaptive technologies such as text to electronic Braille converters, manual Braille typewriters, and various accessible computer softwares available to download, among many more services. The KDL TBBC is currently open on weekdays only, from 8am to 5pm.
