Flier for a pre-march Freedom Rally for the Meredith Marchers

Item

Title
Flier for a pre-march Freedom Rally for the Meredith Marchers
Description
This flier features black text on an off-white background. It advertises a rally to take place before the "Meredith Marchers" were to arrive in Jackson, Mississippi.

The Meredith Marchers were named in honor of James Meredith, the first Black student at the University of Mississippi. While walking during his March Against Fear, a white supremacist shot and attempted to murder him. He survived this attempt.

This flier from Tougaloo College, a historically Black college, features household names Sammy Davis, James Brown, Nina Simone, Eartha Kitt, Marlon Brando, and Burt Lancaster, presumably to advertise their performances and/or appearances.
