Anti-War Movement 1965-72 at UM

Teach-In

The “teach-in” was a strike-style protest method created by University of Michigan faculty members to publicly oppose the Vietnam War. The first teach-in was held on UM’s campus from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m on March 24-25, 1965. The action garnered national media attention, both positive and negative, and other universities across the country followed suit. The teach-in was so successful that on May 15, 1965 the Inter-University Committee for Debate on Foreign Policy (Organizers of the Teach-in) held the National Teach-In on the Vietnam War at the Sheraton Park Hotel in Washington D.C.
