Anti-War Movement 1965-72 at UM

ROTC Building Actions

While fighting continued abroad, some activists focused on aspects of the war effort administered closer to home. The Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) is a program through which university students enter officer roles in the US military. Students' ire toward the organization manifested in diverse tactics to disrupt its operations on campus. The records featured here span less than a year and depict varied actions, from bombing the building housing ROTC, occupying that building, to marching on it. The March & Smash event's banner prominently calls to "Stop the War Against Vietnam & Black America", a demand which demonstrates a shared goal between the anti-war and Civil Rights movements.
