Anti-War Movement 1965-72 at UM

Draft Protests

From 1965-1968, the United States drafted an average of 300,000 men each year to fight in Vietnam. Many anti-war activists opposed the draft. They viewed it as an unfair system that forced people to fight for something they did not believe in. Draft card protests erupted across the nation, often taking the form of draft card burning demonstrations. At the University of Michigan, students participated in various types of draft card protests.
