RELEASED TODAY BY REV. ROY ALLEN, PRESIDENT OF THE DETROIT COUNCIL OF ORGANIZATIONS It is becoming increasingly apparent that a few high-placed members of the
New Detroit Committee have completely misinterpreted the mood of the Negro community. It is their action that has given rise to the growing feeling in the
Negro community that they are bent on having the New Detroit Committee embark on a self-defeating program of "buying off" the so-called militants aind
"appeasing" the so-called moderates. While the sponsors and "financial angels" of this plan may be sincere and well-meaning, it is, nonetheless, an outrageous
insult to the intelligence of the preponderant majority of the Negro people. Inherent in this approach, it would seem, is the notion that with the power of
their money goes the entitlement to superimpose their will, benign or otherwise, on the Negro community. The New Detroit Committee has the potential to
contribute substantively to the building of a brighter and better future for all Detroiters. However, it would make a serious mistake if it permitted a few
high-placed members t persuade the Committee that it could play God to the Negro community. MciIA ltti lLC. To those who have profited by the billions of
dollars that flow out 4;r of the Negro community, but seem unwilling to invest one dime in Negro community programs without attempting to destroy the very
social fabric that binds it together, we serve notice now that it will not be tolerated. J~ s/ ajt' ~ /,~ su /, s</t.z j~<
